– Our Philosophy

APRILIST is a multi-disciplinary practice, based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Under the leadership of Melvin Gan and Abby Yoong, the Aprilist Associates draw inspirations from design principles and lifestyle that suit the emerging and ever-changing local culture.

Driven by the enthusiasm and high-spirited individuals, Aprilist captures expectation and translates them into ideas and reality. Our vision is to create a unique identity for each project. Each project embodied the aesthetical aspect with the experience of end-users. The design solution includes the selection materials palette and sharing of knowledge with craftsmen.

Aprilist believes in communicating design with ideas that enhance and improve the client’s brand message and most importantly, the ultimate experience within the space. At APRILIST, client’s interest are at the heart of everything we design.

Melvin Gan – Principal

After graduating from Swinburne University of Technology with a Master in Design (Interior Design), Melvin continued his stay in Melbourne to join TA2 Architects to undertake the role of Interior Designer. With the decision to move back to Malaysia, he took on a leading role in Interior Design for local developer in Kuala Lumpur before moving on to project management role for several local commercial and residential developments. Prior to his studies in Melbourne, Melvin had tenures in the local practices. He, then set up his own commercial practice in early year 2015.

Abby Yoong – Principal

Graduated from Swinburne University of Technology with a Master in Design (Interior Design), Abby returned to Malaysia to start her career with local practices which includes several residential and commercial projects. With her design flair, Abby took on a leading role in hospitality design for local developer in Kuala Lumpur before deciding to set up her own commercial practice. Abby now heads several hotel projects including hotel brands of Accorhotels.
